HYDROMETERS |

This popular 11" hydrometer is designed to test the alcohol volume in distilled spirits. Reads from 0% - 100% alcohol by volume and also by proof. Alcohol volume is exactly half of the proof. An 80 proof liquor should be 40% alcohol by volume. If you are making moonshine, this is the hydrometer you need. Comes with instructions and is easy to use. Click here to view. In bars where managers take regular inventories, bartenders sometimes add water to liquor bottles to cover up pilferage and free drinks. It's a good idea to spot check your establishment's bottles to keep from being fooled by devious employees. Order 2 hydrometers (in case you break one) and save 10% off your purchase!

This 10" TRIPLE SCALE HYDROMETER is a necessary tool for people making their own batch of wine, beer or cider. Allows you to track the fermentation's progress and determine the finished product's alcohol content by comparing readings before and after fermentation. This Hydrometer shows Specific Gravity from .990 to 1.160, Balling or Brix from 0 to +37% sugar by weight and Potential Alcohol by Volume from 0 to +21%. Click here for a more detailed explanation. Comes with instructions and is easy to use. Click here to view.

This test jar is tall enough to allow the hydrometer to submerge properly into the alcohol being tested. The small diameter keeps the hydrometer from tipping over and the straight clear sides allow the hydrometer numbers to be easily viewed so you can obtain an accurate reading. Contrary to popular belief, alcohol testing should not be performed in a bottle. Maximum Capacity: 6-1/2 ounces Apx. Testing Amount Required: 5 to 5-1/2 ounces

This 5" Vinometer measures the alcohol content from 0 to 20% in DRY (not sweet) wines. To be used after the fermentation process has completed. Easiest to use with red wines since readings are easier to see. When measuring white wine, the addition of a red dye allows better visualization of the wine level. The dye should not contain alcohol or components that would interfere with the measurement. A vinometer is a piece apparatus that consist of an open, graduated glass tube with a small filling resevoir. The vinometer's reservoir or funnel is filled with a small amount of wine being tested until some wine exits out at the other end. It is then turned around and the filling resevoir placed on a flat surface and allowed to self drain. The alcohol concentration level is read off the vinometer's scale in percent of alcohol. The level of the liquid is determined by the modifying affect that alcohol has on the interfacial tension between water and glass and the opposing surface tension of water. The greater the alcohol concentration, the less liquid capillary action and the lower it will sit in the tube of the vinometer. Sugar interferes with the interfacial effects that a vinometer's action relies on and hence the method can only be applied to dry wines. Similarly, other components in wine may also interfere with accurate measurements. Comes complete with directions and is very easy to use. * You DO NOT need a test jar when using the Vinometer.
